Jo Makin has always been an avid reader and fan of books. When her children were born, she discovered that reading aloud to other people was even more fun. Unfortunately for her, after 14 years of daily practice, her kids discovered Audiobooks and decided that was way cooler than Mum-read books. And suddenly Jo found herself with no one to read to anymore, but still she yearned for the attentive audience and the thrill of bringing characters to life with her voice.
One fortuitous day, she stumbled across a video on one Social Media site or another, explaining that it was possible to narrate Audiobooks from the comfort of your own home, and thus the greatest trolling attempt of her life was born. Armed with nothing but a microphone and a new sense of purpose, Jo made it her life’s mission to produce an audiobook on Audible so her kids would still listen to her. And that is the story of how in 2025, at the age of 40, Jo began her narrator journey.
